about to pull the trigger and homestead!

Found a nice lil private spot out in the country in central TX. Its a 30 min drive to Austin, and close to a few smaller towns.

It isn't huge, but I think 1.3 acres with a 3 bdrm house will be enough for me and the dogs.

I'll be paying about 150$ more than I'm renting for.

Finally away from the insanity of the city.

:565:

I'm not too warm and fuzzy about singing the loan though. Others say go ahead and pay the banks off with overinflated money...

wish me luck on my mission. Set to close the 14th of next month.

I agree with Tn-Andy.........but 1.3 doesnt give you a lot of elbow room be careful of whats around you or could potentially around you in the future

for example i have a friend that has a 5a homestead .....but its surrounded by thousands of acres of national forest....so its like he has thousands of acres...all he ever has to deal with is sparadic visits with a ranger

know another guy who had a 40a plot .....built everything like he wanted it.....in a rural county that had no zoneing laws.....a corn achohol fuel producing plant moved in next door ....lowered the water table...lots of trucks on road hauling grain in....fuel out.....added a rail siding....smells like crap...waste issues...etc..

all i am saying is know your area

but other than being careful ...Congrats...

Thanks all!

It should workout. I have 3 neighbors, all of which have about 9+ acres, and a private driveway that we share and split costs of upkeep.

The only businesses I see are a metal constuction company that builds metal buildings, and that is about 300 yds away...

Its been nice and quiet everytime I've been out there.

Your neighbours might even be glad if you offered to shoot those "Pesky" deer that keep invading their land... great start! I'm lucky enough to have 100 acres, mostly forest but some natural pasture - even keeping the lawn nice and green and tasty is enough to tempt the deer down in the mornings.
Nothing more satisfying than waking up at the crack of dawn, cocking your rifle, shooting from an upstairs window while still in bed and giving yourself a ringing in the ears for a few hours while you prep your kill!:ok:

Niiiiice!

I probably can't shoot my big guns out there, but I'm sure I'll bag a deer at some point.

100 acres sure would be nice!
